Air Touches Everything
Pledge Blue Sky

According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality air in the Victoria Texas area contains higher than normal levels of ground level ozone. This air pollution can cause difficulty breathing, asthma attacks and lead to other respiratory issues. The main pollutant to make ground level ozone comes from car exhaust. The name of the pollutant is NOx, which is short for nitrogen and oxygen compounds. The three things needed to make ground level ozone are air, sunlight and car exhaust. The City of Victoria encourages you to Idle Less with the Blue Sky Initiative in an effort to improve air quality.

Idling vehicles cost everyone in the community by:

- Wasting fuel and money
- Increasing respiratory illnesses in the very young and very old
- Adding extra wear and tear to vehicles
- Increasing safety hazards because idling vehicles can move accidentally

Help make the change to cleaner air by making the Blue Sky Pledge:

I pledge to:

      - Turn off me engine if I will be waiting for more than 1 minute
      - Remind those who drive to turn off their engines when waiting
      - Encourage everyone to park and walk instead of driving
      - Take provided public transportation such as the school bus or transit
      - Suggest a rideshare with friends or family
